The backlinks status labels provide key information about your backlinks.

Here are the status labels and what they mean:

Follow: These backlinks will pass along the PageRank which means you are granted some amount of authority and trust with Google.

NoFollow: These backlinks will direct people to your website, but they won’t get counted for SEO purposes.

Which one is better?

For SEO purposes, Follow backlinks are better, but a natural backlink profile will have a good mix of both.

Live: Our crawler found the backlink on the source page.

Lost: Our crawler was unable to find the backlink on the source page.

What can you do?

  • Check if the backlink still exists on the source page. This usually happens when the backlink is deleted.
  • If you can see the backlink, but it still shows as not found, it may be using a type of script redirect that we can’t detect.
  • Some websites use link redirects. At the moment, our crawler can not identify these types of backlinks, but you can manually mark them as found.
  • Some websites use javascript rendering to hide the content. Usually, we are able to crawl the content, but in case we can’t, you can manually mark them as found.

Page Not Found: This means that our crawler did not find the page.

What can you do?

  • Go to the URL and make sure the page exists. If the page is no longer there, it means that it was deleted. Since this is not your website, there is not much you can do.
  • It could also be that the page was temporarily deleted or that the website is down. In that case, you may want to leave the backlink as-is to see if the page is detected was again later on.
  • Some websites block crawlers, so we are unable to see the pages. A couple of examples of websites that do this are crunchbase.com and angel.co
