Seed keywords, or initial keywords, are words or short phrases that you use to describe your product in a general. This is used as a baseline to find more focused keywords, as well as long-tail keywords.

Your seed keywords are usually easy to determine because they are directly related to your product category, features, and benefits.

Let’s say that you’re selling CRM software. Your product category is your first seed keyword.

Now take a look at your features. Your users can use a sales funnel in your CRM to follow up on their sales leads.

Just with the above statements, we can come up with some seed keywords:

  • CRM software
  • Lead sales funnel
  • Sales CRM

Once you have a list of seed or initial keywords, you can use them in the keyword research tool to discover related keywords that you can use in your content to rank on Google.
